July 2021 Reading List

Hi everyone!

Even though it’s a little bit too late, I finally have my reading list ready!

I’m super excited about this month’s choices so let’s get into it:

The Silent Waters // Brittainy C. Cherry

Photo by: Not So Secret Me

Goodreads Synopsis: Moments.

Our lives are a collection of moments. Some utterly painful and full of yesterday’s hurts. Some beautifully hopeful and full of tomorrow’s promises.

I’ve had many moments in my lifetime, moments that changed me, challenged me. Moments that scared me and engulfed me. However, the biggest ones—the most heartbreaking and breathtaking ones—all included him.

I was ten years old when I lost my voice. A piece of me was stolen away, and the only person who could truly hear my silence was Brooks Griffin. He was the light during my dark days, the promise of tomorrow, until tragedy found him. Tragedy that eventually drowned him in a sea of memories.

This is the story of a boy and girl who loved each other, but didn’t love themselves. A story of life and death. Of love and broken promises.

Of moments.

Genre: Romance; New Adult

Goodreads Rating: 4.36 / 5

I’m reading this one for my Wine Not Book Club. It seems to have such a lovely plot. Can’t Wait!

“Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass” // Lana Del Rey

Photo by: Not So Secret Me

Goodreads Synopsis: “Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass is the title poem of the book and the first poem I wrote of many. Some of which came to me in their entirety, which I dictated and then typed out, and some that I worked laboriously picking apart each word to make the perfect poem. They are eclectic and honest and not trying to be anything other than what they are and for that reason I’m proud of them, especially because the spirit in which they were written was very authentic.” – Lana Del Rey

Genre: Poetry

Goodreads Rating: 3.93 / 5

I’ve always admired Lana Del Rey as a singer, but specially as a songwriter. Her music lyrics are so poetic and amazing (songs like “Love Song” are heaven on earth), so I’m pretty sure I’ll love her poetry book even more.

My expectations are on their highest, to be honest. Can’t wait!

The Merchant of Venice // William Shakespeare

Photo By: Not So Secret Me

Goodreads Synopsis: In this lively comedy of love and money in sixteenth-century Venice, Bassanio wants to impress the wealthy heiress Portia but lacks the necessary funds. He turns to his merchant friend, Antonio, who is forced to borrow from Shylock, a Jewish moneylender. When Antonio’s business falters, repayment becomes impossible–and by the terms of the loan agreement, Shylock is able to demand a pound of Antonio’s flesh. Portia cleverly intervenes, and all ends well (except of course for Shylock).

Genre: Classics; Play; Fiction

Goodreads Rating: 3,80 / 5

This will be my second Shakespeare play! My first was Romeo and Juliet, and I confess that I wasn’t into it. I still want to reread it though, I feel like I’ll know how to appreciate it better now.

PORTUGUESE AUTHOR: Onde Cantam os Grilos // Maria Isaac

Photo By: Not So Secret Me

This time I also decided to read a Portuguese book, from a Portuguese author. It seems to be a lovely story, perfect for summer time!

Genre: Romance

Goodreads Rating: 4.18 / 5
